Can You Use PS VR2 On Your PC?

Curious about the compatibility of PS VR2 with your PC? This question, looming in the minds of every PS VR2 owner, has a definitive answer, albeit not a straightforward one.

The PlayStation VR 2 represents a significant leap forward from its predecessor, blending the power of the PlayStation 5 with cutting-edge eye-tracking and motion-control technologies. However, using it on a PC isn’t a seamless process.

Despite the allure of employing Valve’s SteamVR integration for PC VR with the PS VR2, achieving PC compatibility currently lacks a straightforward solution. Sony has intentionally restricted its sophisticated VR hardware, making it exclusive to PS5 consoles right out of the box. Nevertheless, owing to its impressive specifications, PC gamers are eager to explore the possibilities of incorporating the PS VR2 into their setups.

The growing curiosity among enthusiasts revolves around unlocking the PS VR2’s capabilities for PC-based VR games. Unfortunately, seeking an uncomplicated method to connect the headset to your PC may lead to some challenges.

How to Connect a PlayStation VR2 to PC

PS VR2 On Your PC

To establish a physical connection between a PSVR2 and your PC, the straightforward step involves plugging it into a fully-equipped USB-C port on your desktop PC. However, for individuals aiming to make it function seamlessly on a PC, the process might prove to be more challenging.

Does PS VR2 Work on PC?

Regrettably, even though Windows can acknowledge the presence of a connected device in the USB-C port, coaxing it to emit a signal is an entirely different challenge. In our experience with a gaming PC equipped with an RTX 3080, the device merely registered as a recognized device in Windows, offering no further functionality. However, according to reports from The Verge, connecting it to an AMD GPU’s USB-C port does enable the headset to display a 1080p signal as a secondary screen.

Upon connecting the PSVR 2 Sense controllers through USB, they appear as HID-compliant game controllers, but their usability remains limited at this point.

Furthermore, attempts to use the headset with SteamVR titles yielded no discernible changes in performance or functionality.

The PS VR2 Doesn’t Work on PC

Regrettably, the PSVR2 is not compatible with your PC, despite the fact that the devices are acknowledged. Unfortunately, the prospect of official drivers seems unlikely. Sony is inclined to maintain PSVR2 support exclusively on the PlayStation platform, aiming to capitalize on software sales. Although it’s conceivable that community-generated drivers may emerge eventually, crafting a solution for a device as intricate as the PlayStation VR2 would present a formidable challenge for the community.
