Will GTA 6 Come To The Steam Deck?

The upcoming installment in Rockstar’s crime-infested open-world series is scheduled to debut in a couple of years, but the big question looming is whether GTA 6 will be available on the Steam Deck. Let’s delve into some speculation!

Grand Theft Auto 6, commonly referred to as GTA 6, is steadily approaching its anticipated release in 2025. With the launch still a few years away, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the chance to explore the modern-day rendition of Vice City.

While my personal enthusiasm for the brief teaser clip may not be overwhelming, there remain several unanswered questions, chief among them being whether this game, slated for release in two years, will be compatible with the Steam Deck.

It’s essential to note that Rockstar has yet to confirm the game’s arrival on PC, let alone on Valve’s handheld PC. Despite the recent strain on the Steam Deck’s capabilities with releases like Starfield, it’s worth considering that the device’s landscape might undergo significant changes within the next two years.

Valve has expressed its pursuit of the next generational leap, but indications suggest that this might not occur in terms of price or availability until at least 2025.

As of now, the prevailing sentiment leans towards a “no” for the current iteration of the Steam Deck. However, a next-generation Steam Deck could be a contender when the time comes.

In essence, the speculation revolves around the uncertainty of compatibility with the current device, leaving the possibility open for a more advanced Steam Deck in the future.

Additionally, there’s considerable uncertainty regarding the system requirements for GTA 6.

Not only are games expanding in size, but their demands on hardware are also escalating. Notable titles such as Starfield, Star Wars Jedi, and The Last of Us Part 1 faced substantial issues upon their initial PC releases. It’s reasonable to anticipate similar challenges for GTA 6.

Now, if we confine the game to what essentially amounts to a portable low-end PC, potential issues may arise on the Steam Deck. Another consideration is the necessity for Rockstar and Take-Two to implement an anti-cheat system that seamlessly functions on the Steam Deck. Assuming they adopt a similar approach as they did with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, that aspect should be manageable.

Nevertheless, should Valve introduce a Steam Deck 2 in the next few years, one could reasonably expect the game to run smoothly on the chosen hardware.
