Demon Slayer, created by Koyoharu Gotouge, is a popular manga and anime series that revolves around a young boy who tragically loses his family to a demon. Determined to seek justice and eradicate all demons, he embarks on a perilous journey throughout the series.
For those who haven’t completed the manga, there is speculation surrounding the fate of Tanjiro, the protagonist of Demon Slayer. Many wonder if he meets his demise by the end of the story.
So, does Tanjiro die?
What happens to Tanjiro towards the end of Demon Slayer
Does Tanjiro die toward the end of the series?
Although a simple “yes” or “no” response might suffice, the reality behind this question is more intricate. The Final Battle arc in Demon Slayer is divided into two segments: the Infinity Castle arc and the Sunrise Countdown arc.
In the concluding arc, Tanjiro and the Hashiras work together to keep Muzan occupied until sunrise, aiming to eliminate him completely. As the battle nears its end, Kibutsuji Muzan, the primary antagonist of Demon Slayer, meets his demise. Just moments before his death, he reaches out to Tanjiro and transfers all of his blood into Tanjiro’s body. However, as he attempts to inject the blood, Muzan stops breathing and remains lifeless for a brief period. Surprisingly, Tanjiro revives but undergoes a transformation into a Demon of far greater power compared to Muzan.
Nezuko, a beloved character among Demon Slayer fans, prevents her older brother from causing harm to others. The Hashiras, filled with terror, witness their former comrade transforming into the Demon King before their eyes.
To prevent the boy from unleashing destruction upon the village, Shinobu’s medicine plays a crucial role. The insect Hashira ensures Kanao has an additional dose of the same medicine used on Nezuko, just in case it proves insufficient.
Summoning all her strength, Kanao employs her Breath of the Flower Final Form, known as Equinoctial Vermilion Eye, to evade the relentless attacks of Demon Tanjiro. She manages to pierce him with the medicine derived from the Wisteria Flower, and fortunately, within minutes, Tanjiro reverts back to his human form.
In Chapter 205 of Demon Slayer, a significant time jump occurs, and it is mentioned that Tanjiro passes away three generations after the battle against Muzan.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Tanjiro perishes while engaged in a battle against Muzan but experiences a rapid revival through the transfer of blood from the Demon King. Consequently, he undergoes a transformation into a Demon. However, Kanao administers a specific medicine derived from Wisteria flowers, which successfully reverts Tanjiro back into a human form.
Interestingly, the concluding chapter hints at Tanjiro’s eventual demise, suggesting that it may be attributed to either illness or old age.
