Continuing its theme of promoting kindness, the Wonder series is extending its narrative with the upcoming release of White Bird, scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2023. In line with its forerunner, White Bird draws its inspiration from a novel authored by R.J. Palacio.
Back in 2017, Lionsgate unveiled the film Wonder, an adaptation of R.J. Palacio’s novel, which surprised many with its unexpected triumph. Despite being produced with a modest budget of $20 million, the movie went on to achieve a remarkable box office collection of $306.2 million, garnering widespread praise from both viewers and critics alike. Given the immense triumph of the original, it was only logical for Lionsgate to explore ways to carry forward the Wonder saga in some capacity.

The movie’s premiere has been postponed by nearly a full year from its initial intended date, with Lionsgate now opting for a limited release on August 18, 2023, followed by a broader release on August 25, 2023.

Helen Mirren takes on the role of Julian’s grandmother, Sara Albans. The Academy Award-winning actress is a seasoned professional in successful period dramas. She has held lead positions in productions like Catherine the Great, The Queen, Antony and Cleopatra, as well as the TV series Elizabeth I. With a career spanning more than five decades, she boasts an impressive list of accolades. Helen Mirren is the sole performer to achieve both the American and British Triple Crowns, securing an Academy Award, four BAFTA Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award.
Bryce Gheisar returns to his character from the 2017 movie, portraying Julian Albans, the former antagonist to Auggie. Outside the Wonder film series, Gheisar made appearances in films like A Dog’s Purpose and The 15:17 to Paris. He showcased his talent as Herman in the well-known Disney Channel sitcom Walk the Prank and also starred in two limited series on Nickelodeon, The Astronauts and Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows.
Gillian Anderson takes on the role of Julian’s mother, Vivienne. Anderson is renowned for her prolific work in popular series including The X-Files, The Crown, and Sex Education. Her filmography includes titles like The Last King of Scotland, The Pale Blue Eye, and The Spy Who Dumped Me. Completing the cast are Ariella Glaser (Radioactive), portraying young Sara, and Orlando Schwerdt (Children of the Corn), who plays Julian I.
