At the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Championship event, Bandai Namco announced that they will add a new game to the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4 series. A bright and exciting trailer revealed that a new game is currently being made. This game will have updated versions of the powerful Super Saiyan forms for the main character, Goku. But, there were not many specific details given in the trailer.
Bandai Namco made the announcement, “Be ready for combat.” ‘A new Budokai Tenkaichi starts.’
In the teaser, there was a quick montage of gameplay from previous Budokai Tenkaichi games, and then it showed a dazzling “next-gen” version of Goku transforming into his Super Saiyan Blue form for the first time. This transformation was originally shown in Dragon Ball Super.

A remarkable 16 years have passed since the introduction of Budokai Tenkaichi 3. And the most recent installment in the genre, Tenkaichi Tag Team. It was presented for the PlayStation Portable in the year 2010. In spite of this. It would seem that the Dragon Ball series has seen a significant resurgence as a result of its ongoing popularity.
Bandai Namco, Toei Animation, Bird Studio, and Shueisha are the firms that are now in charge of the rights to the Dragon Ball series. Nevertheless, we do not know too more about what is on the way. Other than the fact that these four companies are involved. It is not known whether the game’s original developer, Spike (now known as Spike Chunsoft), would come back to work on it. Whatever the case may be, there is cause for joy that the much-loved Budokai Tenkaichi series is making a comeback.
These fighting games kicked off a revolution in what anime video games might look and feel like, and also helped to the birth of other excellent anime fighting titles, such as Naruto Ninja Storm, which, interestingly, also has a new installment in the works with Bandai Namco at the moment.
What is Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi?
The Budokai series was expanded in a significant way with the release of three new games. And one of these games was Budokai Tenkaichi. This led to the creation of a new franchise. These video games were released in Japan under the name Dragon Ball Z Sparking. Took the Tekken-inspired combat style of the Budokai series. And developed it into a full-fledged arena fighter. These games also enlarged the rosters to include a large number of characters that were both huge and little (in both physical size and popularity). And the third game ended up having over 98 characters that had over 160 different transformations available to them.
It has been 16 years since the previous Budokai Tenkaichi game was out. And considering that Dragon Ball Xenoverse has practically taken its main gameplay. It is surprising to discover that a new title is on the way. It already feels like more than a remake with the addition of an updated Goku as shown in this teaser trailer. But since it is still so early on in the production process. There are still a lot of elements that have yet to be released about the game.
