Legendary Cougar RDR2 Background

Gaptooth Ridge in New Austin is home to the Legendary Cougar. This cougar is easily identified by its distinctive black fur. It preys on deer, elk, moose, and mountain goats as a carnivore. Long-range weaponry, such as rifles or a bow with poison arrows, are advised for hunting cougars due to their ferocious temperament.

Legendary Cougar RDR2 Location

To find the Legendary Cougar in Red Dead Redemption 2, players must venture to Gaptooth Ridge in New Austin, which is located to the west of Tumbleweed. This area is known for its rugged terrain, with rocky outcroppings and narrow canyons that provide ample cover for the elusive predator.

Once in the area, players should search for clues to the Cougar’s location, such as tracks and scat. The Legendary Cougar is known to be particularly stealthy, so players should approach with caution and be ready for a quick and unexpected attack.

How to Kill Legendary Cougar RDR2

To kill a Legendary Animal in Red Dead 2, you must meticulously hunt it down — Legendary animals do not emerge; you must hunt/track them in order to kill them. Here are the entire instructions for hunting Legendary Animals in RDR2, as well as what to do if they don’t come – or flee.

1. Equip yourself with the most powerful weapons and ammo you have in your arsenal. A Shotgun with Slug Ammo purchased from a Fence is a great hunting accessory. Remember that you cannot damage the pelt of a Legendary Animal, so bring your strongest weapons and leave your bow behind.

2. Ride to the area where the Legendary Cougar should appear based on the map provided in the game. A black box should pop up on the upper left corner of the screen indicating you’ve entered a Legendary Animal’s territory.

3. Get off of your horse and move in slow, spiraling circles until a white question mark (?) appears on your map. This is the start of the hunting sequence.

Black Box doesn’t Pop Up?

4. If you do not see the black box pop up or the white ?, leave the area and camp nearby. Return and the black box should appear and the animal should spawn. Note that some Legendary Animals will not appear until you’ve completed Master Hunter Challenges.

5. At the white ?, press the button indicated to investigate the droppings, fur, or damage the animal left. This reveals a path. Click the RIGHT STICK and LEFT STICK at the same time to enter Eagle Eye mode and see the path (R3/L3).

6. Follow the path and, at the end of it (usually the path runs in a straight line from where you started, and it always ends within the white circle on the map) enter Eagle Eye again.

Investigate

7. Investigate the second of three animal evidence markers.

8. Repeat the above steps to reveal a third evidence marker. At this point, listen for the animal and crouch.

9. Move slowly towards the animal using the final path illuminated by your Eagle Eye.

10.Replenish Dead Eye as needed, and target the animal’s head with your powerful weapon.

11.Again, you cannot damage the pelt of a Legendary Animal, so fire as many shots as you can. Animals like the Legendary Cougar will run after taking damage, so you’ll need to shoot quickly and with powerful ammo.

12.Approach the Legendary Animal and skin it.

13.If you let the animal get away, leave the area (go back to Camp) and sleep for 72 hours before returning to try again.

Legendary Cougar RDR2 Pelt

One of the benefits of hunting Legendary Animals like the Legendary Cougar in Red Dead Redemption 2 is that you don’t have to worry about damaging the pelt or skin. This means that you can use any weapon you want to take it down.

In contrast, when hunting a common cougar, the game’s compendium recommends using a specific weapon to get a clean kill and preserve the pelt. This can be a challenge for players who may not have access to the recommended weapon or ammo.

However, with Legendary Animals, the pelt or skin is always in perfect condition, regardless of the weapon used to take it down. So, if you’re having trouble finding or affording a particular weapon, you can rest assured that you can still take down the Legendary Cougar with any weapon you have available.

To Wrap it all Up

RDR2 has a very special Cougar that is very hard to find. It is known for being really fast, nimble, and strong. To locate it, players need to go to Gaptooth Ridge in New Austin and search for hints. They can hunt and kill the Legendary Cougar using any weapon without worrying about damaging its fur or skin. It is very important to do exactly what the instructions say when you are hunting for Legendary Animals.
