The Legendary Elk is one of the 16 special animals in the game Red Dead Redemption 2 that players can hunt and collect its skin. When you remove the skin of the elk, you will get the valuable and special Elk Pelt and Elk Antler. The antler is used to create a special item called the Elk Antler Trinket. This item makes stolen money worth 10% more.
Legendary ELK RDR2 Background
In Red Dead Redemption 2, the Legendary Elk is a special and uncommon species of elk. This enormous elk, native to Ambarino in the Cumberland Forest, is distinguished by its extraordinary set of antlers. The Elk Antler Trinket, for example, boosts the player’s stamina experience gains by 10% and is crafted using pelts and other materials earned by hunting the Legendary Elk.
Legendary ELK RDR2 Location
The area where the Legendary Elk can be found is known as the Cumberland Forest. It is a dense forest with rolling hills, rocky terrain, and a river running through it. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, bears, wolves, and other elk.
To successfully track and hunt the Legendary Elk, the player must have good hunting skills, patience, and the right equipment. It is recommended to use a high-powered rifle, such as the Rolling Block Rifle or the Bolt Action Rifle, and to aim for the head or heart to ensure a clean kill.
How to Kill The Legendary ELK RDR2
To kill a Legendary Animal in Red Dead 2, you must meticulously hunt it down — Legendary animals do not emerge; you must hunt/track them in order to kill them. Here are the entire instructions for hunting Legendary Animals in RDR2, as well as what to do if they don’t come – or flee.
- Equip your most powerful weapons and ammo. A Shotgun with Slug Ammo purchased from a Fence is a great hunting accessory. You cannot damage Legendary Animal pelts so bring strong weapons and leave your bow behind.
- Ride to the area where the Legendary Animal should appear based on the map below. There’s another Legendary Animal nearby, but you’ll want to head to the wood east of Bacchus Station.
- A black box should pop up on the upper left corner of the screen indicating you’ve entered a Legendary Animal’s territory.
- Get off of your horse and move in slow, spiraling circles until a white question mark (?) appears on your map. This is the start of the hunting sequence.
Legendary ELK RDR2 Black Box Pop Up
- If you do not see the black box pop up or the white ?, leave the area and camp nearby. Return and the black box should appear and the animal should spawn. Note that some Legendary Animals will not appear until you’ve completed Master Hunter Challenges (One example of this is the Legendary Panther, see below).
- At the white ?, press the button indicated to investigate the droppings, fur, or damage the animal left. This reveals a path. Click the RIGHT STICK and LEFT STICK at the same time to enter Eagle Eye mode and see the path (R3/L3).
- Follow the path and, at the end of it (usually the path runs in a straight line from where you started, and it always ends within the white circle on the map) enter Eagle Eye again.
Investigation
- Investigate the second of three animal evidence markers.
- Repeat the above steps to reveal a third evidence marker. At this point, listen for the animal and crouch.
- Move slowly towards the animal using the final path illuminated by your Eagle Eye.
- Replenish Dead Eye as needed, and target the animal’s head with a powerful weapon.
Legendary ELK RDR2 Pelt
- Again, you cannot damage the pelt of a Legendary Animal so fire as many shots as you can. Animals like the Legendary Buck will run after taking damage, so you’ll need to shoot quickly, and with powerful ammo.
- Approach the Legendary Animal and skin it. You will be able to obtain valuable items and pelts from the Legendary Elk.
- If you let the animal get away, leave the area (go back to Camp) and sleep for 72 hours. This should reset the area and allow you to try again.
- Furthermore, you may make the Elk Antler Trinket out of elk antlers, which enhances the amount of money you loot by 10%. After you kill the Elk, go to the Fence to manufacture the item.
To Wrap it all Up
The Legendary Elk in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a special and valuable animal that can be killed and have its skin taken in Ambarino’s Cumberland Forest. It’s a challenging search that requires both knowledge and a powerful weapon. You can use the Legendary Elk’s skin and horn to make useful things like the Elk Horn Trinket. This trinket helps you gain more stamina experience by 10% if you kill an elk. If a player can’t find and hunt the Legendary Elk even after doing everything right like looking at evidence markers and using Eagle Eye mode, they can start over by resting for 72 hours in the game.
