Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 appears to be on the verge of a significant pay-to-win precipice as a result of recent gameplay updates and the addition of cosmetic items that can be purchased that are likely to drastically alter how players interact with the action. Players are complaining online about new aesthetic skins that have been added to the game and offer significant “extra effects” for those that play the game’s well-liked DMZ mode, which is an infiltration and escapes experience.
While the majority of players continue to compete on an even playing field in DMZ, it appears that new premium skins are giving paying players the opportunity to enhance their loadout with unique perks, like increases in inventory space. According to Kotaku, the recently launched Bomb Squad aesthetic pack is the cause of a lot of player angst because, when loaded, it instantly adds a medium backpack (along with other advantages) to player loadouts.
The amount of necessary equipment that players in DMZ mode can carry is determined by their backpacks, which can be upgraded as the game progresses to help with skirmishes and overall combat readiness. Players must restart after dying in order to restore their armament and get ready for the subsequent advance because these backpacks shrink in size.
Owners of the recently released Bomb Squad skin, which costs 1,200 CoD points (about US $10 | AU $15), enjoy an advantage over other players by having a larger bag when reloading. You’ll ostensibly have a higher chance of surviving if you pay for the skin.
The release of new, more potent paid skins may make the problem much worse, according to reportedly leaked skin packages uploaded on Reddit. The “added benefit” of getting a UAV plane to utilize on the battlefield, according to a “Future Roze” package provided by Reddit user BadFishteeth, allows players to immediately see where other troops are on the game’s map.
This skill is already present in the game, as Kotaku notes, but it is typically a rare drop that must be located through foraging and exploration. Warzone 2.0 loses a lot of its appeal if players can just pick up UAVs, which might eventually cause the game to become overrun with pay-to-win perks.
DMZ supporters have expressed their worries on Reddit and Twitter, claiming that this pay-to-win strategy will “ruin” the game for everyone and eliminate the necessity for talent or dexterity in combat. Gamers will allegedly be able to pay money to have it easier, with the wealthier players standing to benefit the most.
Activision has not yet addressed the consequences of the DMZ additional effects or the criticism of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. We’re probably going to hear more about this development in the near future given the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the recently added paid skins and how they might alter the game.
