Ironmace, a video game developer, has found itself embroiled in controversy after being accused by its former employer, Nexon, of stealing assets and ideas for its role-playing game, Dark And Darker. Despite Ironmace’s denial of any wrongdoing, Nexon has taken action, pulling the game from Steam with a DMCA takedown notice. Fans of Dark And Darker were left puzzled when the game disappeared from the platform on March 25, with Ironmace later confirming the legal action from Nexon.
The dispute has centered on Nexon’s belief that Dark And Darker is based on P3, a cancelled game that was developed by Nexon employees who later joined Ironmace. Ironmace, however, maintains that the accused employee left Nexon in June 2021, with no stolen assets or code used in the creation of their debut game.
The situation escalated further when Ironmace’s office was raided by police earlier this month in connection to Nexon’s allegations. In response, Ironmace issued a statement refuting the claims and asserting that they had taken measures to ensure Dark And Darker was created with original code and assets. As the legal battle continues to unfold, gamers and industry insiders alike are left to speculate on the veracity of the allegations and the future of both companies.
