The anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, belonging to the Shonen fantasy genre, has made a remarkable achievement by surpassing the highly acclaimed Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in ratings on MyAnimeList.
Since its debut in September 2023, It has released eleven exceptional episodes, quickly gaining popularity in its inaugural season. This surge in interest has positioned it as a formidable competitor to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB), a series renowned for its extensive fanbase and long-standing top position on MyAnimeList.
While FMAB has been dethroned from the top spot on MyAnimeList before, it has consistently reclaimed its position. However, Frieren presents a new challenge, and fans are keenly watching to see if it can sustain its newly acquired top ranking.
Frieren Takes The First Spot On MyAnimeList
On the MyAnimeList (MAL) top anime page, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End now occupies the premier spot with a rating of 9.10, nudging Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB) to the second rank.
Prior to Frierens, several notable series including Oshi No Ko, Attack on Titan, and My Happy Marriage had temporarily unseated FMAB. Interestingly, even with Frieren at the top, FMAB continues to hold a rating of 9.10, now in second place.
The storyline of Frierens centers on Frieren, an elven mage and a former member of a heroic party that defeated a demon king. Post-victory, Frieren embarks on a solitary journey, leaving her comrades behind. When she returns years later, she discovers the aging and death of her former allies, leading to her regret for taking them for granted. This realization prompts Frieren to forge new bonds with humans and to be more present in their lives.
The anime has elicited diverse opinions within its fanbase. While many are pleased with its top ranking, others express dissatisfaction. Additionally, there’s a prevailing sentiment among fans that FMAB will soon reclaim its leading position on MAL.
