Actor Timothée Chalamet unveiled the Game of the Year at the most significant awards ceremony in the video game industry.
The star of Wonka announced that the fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 had secured the top prize at the awards ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Upon receiving the award, Belgian developer Larian expressed that the epic fantasy RPG, based on Dungeons and Dragons, was a labor of love.
Baldur’s Gate 3 achieved dominance in the awards, securing six wins, including accolades for best performance, best RPG, and player’s choice.
Timothée, introduced by awards host Geoff Keighley under the alias “ModdedController360,” which was the name of his now-deleted teenage YouTube channel celebrating customized gaming peripherals.
The Wonka star has openly discussed his avid interest in gaming during interviews. And was recently captured in a photograph during a visit to the esteemed Japanese studio of developer Hideo Kojima.
Game Awards Winners
Baldur’s Gate 3 secured an impressive total of six awards, with actor Neil Newbon. Acclaimed for his role as the beloved character Astarion, earning the Best Performance accolade.
The survival horror title Alan Wake 2 claimed three awards. Triumphing in the categories of Best Game Direction, Narrative, and Art Direction.
Among other noteworthy victories were The Last of Us TV series, which clinched the Best Adaptation title, Cyberpunk 2077 honored as the Best Ongoing Game, and the puzzle adventure Cocoon recognized as the Best Independent Game.
In different categories, Forza Motorsport was acknowledged with the Innovation in Accessibility award. While the action-adventure game Tchia secured the title of Game for Impact.
Notable contenders for the coveted Game of the Year included Super Mario Wonder, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, and Resident Evil 4: Remake.
Big Announcements in Game Awards 2023
The Game Awards serves as a fusion of an awards ceremony and a preview event. Drawing in numerous fans eager for glimpses of new trailers and announcements for upcoming titles.
During the event, fans were treated to a sneak peek at Exodus. A sci-fi RPG crafted by Archetype Entertainment, a studio composed of former Bioware developers.
In a momentous reveal, acclaimed videogame creator Hideo Kojima introduced OD or Overdose. A collaborative project with Get Out director Jordan Peele.
The event also showcased the unveiling of a remake for the 2013 game Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons. Along with fresh perspectives on titles such as Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
Attendees were granted a preview of Jurassic Park: Survival gameplay. And Sega delighted fans by announcing the revival of classic franchises Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
