Even though the PS5 has been on the market for less than three years. A successor with improved hardware could already be in the works. Insider Gaming has published a fresh story in which they claim that. They have information suggesting that a hypothetical PS5 Pro is currently in the works. And that Sony is eyeing a late 2024 delivery date for the product. Similar to the PS4 Pro, this PS5 Pro would feature improved specifications compared to the standard model. Which would result in enhanced graphics and overall performance.
The article cites a new patent filed by PlayStation system architect Mark Cerny that seeks to increase the speed of ray tracing technology as a probable cause for this PS5 Pro, in addition to its own anonymous sources. In addition, it asserts that Sony will not deliver the PlayStation consoles of the following generation, known as the PS6, until at least the year 2028.
Given that there has been a recent spike in demand for the PS5 console. But there has been a limited quantity of chips available until very recently. The article states that the reasoning for the PS5 Pro is very much up for question. While the majority of PS5 games have also been published on the PS4. It is not known to what degree game developers have attempted to push the limitations of the current hardware in the PS5.
This isn’t the first time that an Insider Gaming article has claimed knowledge regarding upcoming PS5 hardware. Back in September 2022. The publication revealed that Sony was intending to produce a new version of the PS5 that would contain a removable disc drive that would be connected through USB-C. The story was made public.
