Stardew Valley will introduce new game content with update 1.6

Creator of Stardew Valley Eric Barone (also known as ConcernedApe) has revealed that the game will soon receive a significant 1.6 update that will make it “easier and more powerful to mod” and add new game content for all players. The game is anticipated to be expanded in some fashion even though this unreleased update will have “far less” content than its predecessor, which added entirely new areas, activities, and NPCs.

Barone said in answer to a fan that additional NPC conversation will be included in the game, but for the time being, this is the only indication of what is on the way.

Although Barone previously said there were “no plans” for additional Stardew Valley updates, as a sole creator, there have never been any specific limitations on game development. This update appears to be a side project for Barone as he works on the upcoming Haunted Chocolatier, a combat- and management-focused adventure with a focus on magic and ghosts.

In his recent update, Barone indicated he was on a ‘break’ from developing this upcoming game, and that once Stardew Valley update 1.6 releases, he will return to the project.

So far, we know a fair amount about Barone’s next game, Haunted Chocolatier. It was revealed in late 2021, with a flashy trailer showing off the game’s pixel-perfect world, and elements of exploration.

Barone said in an accompanying blog post:

‘In Stardew Valley, the focus was more humble: living off the land, growing food, and connecting to the people and nature around you, with my next game, I wanted to explore more fantastical possibilities… experiences that take you beyond the ordinary. That’s where magical haunted ghost chocolate comes in.’

With a heavy dose of magic thrown into the gameplay loop, the game will have witches, wizards, ghouls, and goblins—all of whom existed in the outer realms of Stardew Valley.

As Barone has temporarily shifted his attention to the future of Stardew Valley, the game’s development is now on pause, but we can anticipate hearing more about Haunted Chocolatier in the future. Keep checking the ConcernedApe social media accounts for information on the release date of the Stardew Valley update 1.6 in the interim.
