Fntastic’s controversial survival game, The Day Before, is reportedly set to get a major beta test ahead of its planned launch in November 2023 – despite concerns still lingering about its legitimacy.
The game first rose to prominence as one of the most wish-listed games on Steam, thanks to its promise of a robust open-world multiplayer experience, and its flashy graphics. In the weeks following its rise, trouble started with allegations that the team working on the game was unpaid, with much confusion stemming from the studio’s definition of ‘volunteer’ employees.
Fntastic was compelled to answer after a significant report from WellPlayed claimed translators and other staff members were not paid.
‘Volunteering at Fntastic means that a person works willingly for a common cause. We consider all team members, including employees, volunteers,’ Fntastic said. This definition prompted further confusion, which was not clarified.
Eventually, the game was inexplicably removed from Steam for reasons that the founders initially referred to as a “bug” before later claiming were due to a copyright lawsuit. The studio claims that after the game’s announcement, another copyright holder claimed ownership of the moniker “Day Before,” leading to a dispute over the game’s Steam page. The game is still no longer featured on Steam.
When Fntastic released a ten-minute gameplay clip for The Day Before with little action, the situation deteriorated even more. The leaked video largely consisted of a lone hero wandering around a desolate, nearly unpopulated planet for ten minutes rather than displaying hearty combat or survival aspects.
Despite all of these disputes along the way to The Day Before, it now seems the firm is speeding up its preparations. According to PCGamesN, Fntastic has made an official announcement about a beta test for the upcoming game on Discord.
Despite the lack of a release date, we may infer that this beta will begin for interested players before November 2023, which Fntastic recently revealed as the game’s official launch date.
‘We understand that many of you have been eagerly waiting for the release of this game, and we want to thank you for your patience and support throughout the development process,’ an admin for the Day Before Discord reportedly announced. ‘We have been working hard to ensure that the game meets our high standards, and we are confident that it will be worth the wait.’
‘As we get closer to the release date, we will be conducting a beta test for the game. This will give players the opportunity to try out the game before it is released and provide valuable feedback that we can use to improve the final product.’
The admin also disclosed that the Fntastic team is now being “worked on” bringing the game back to Steam in addition to this beta.
There are currently no other details available about the game, but it does sound like Fntastic is getting ready for hands-on previews, which might finally put doubts about the game’s validity to rest. Be sure to check back for additional information about The Day Before’s release and how to sign up for its impending beta test.
