In response to popular interest in a new The Simpsons: Hit and Run, one of the game’s creators offered some thoughts. Over the years, fans have expressed their desire for a new version of Simpsons Hit and Run, even going so far as to launch a petition demanding an official remaster.
Since its first release in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit and Run have gained cult status among gamers. It catered to a younger audience by combining Grand Theft Auto’s gameplay with the humor and charm of The Simpsons. The game did not do very well when it was first released, but it has aged rather well. Although there hasn’t been any official word in a long time, the leak of The Simpsons: Hit and Run’s source code a few years ago made headlines. Since then, this has greatly simplified the process of creating fan-made expansions and modifications to the base game.
Joe McGinn Statement
Joe McGinn, lead designer for The Simpsons: Hit and Run, made the remaking of the game statement. McGinn has shown interest in seeing a remake of the game. McGinn has no idea whether an official remake is in the works since developer Radical Entertainment is now almost non-existent. A number of players have taken things into their own hands by working on their own remakes. Maybe the most well-known YouTuber reubs ongoing recreation of The Simpsons: Hit and Run in Unreal Engine 5, which has recently made incredible strides.
McGinn was at a loss for words in the remake conversation. Those still holding out for a remaster or remake will likely see this as excellent news. McGinn isn’t the first alum to weigh in on this; The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman has also recently voiced his support for a remastered version of Simpsons Hit and Run. It appears to be one of the most sought-after games, but since publisher Vivendi Universal Games went out of business 15 years ago, it’s not obvious who would have the rights to make it.
It would be surprising if a new version of The Simpsons Hit and Run were to be made, no matter how much demand there is from fans. The Simpsons Game, based on the film, was the most recent major release. It’s conceivable, of course; crazier things have occurred, but it’d be a major departure for The Simpsons canon.
