The legendary RoboCop from Paul Verhoeven is about to enter the realm of WWE SuperCard, as a new tie-in event will debut a special SuperStar card for the armed anti-hero. Throughout May 2023, he will be playable in the game, and new tasks will be available for players to complete in order to obtain new, themed cards.
Strangely enough, a press release advertising the partnership indicates that RoboCop and WWE are “iconic within popular culture” and claims that the “relationship between both IPs is guaranteed to excite fans,” yet it omits the fact that RoboCop has a lengthy history in wrestling.
In reality, he had a canon appearance in a significant, mainstream wrestling program in 1990.
As part of the promotional campaign for the movie “RoboCop 2,” which was considered a less successful sequel to the original 1987 film, RoboCop made a guest appearance in a pay-per-view event for World Championship Wrestling (WCW), WWE’s main competitor during the wrestling wars of the 1980s and 1990s.
The pay-per-view event, titled “Capital Combat: Return of RoboCop,” was designed to promote the movie and created a blend of wrestling reality and fantasy. RoboCop appeared during the show to rescue wrestler Sting from the villainous group known as the Four Horsemen. Sting was locked in a cage, and an actor playing RoboCop entered the ring and forcibly removed the cage door, saving the day.
The appearance of RoboCop in the wrestling event has frequently been criticized as one of the most disappointing moments in the sport’s history and is often regarded as a significant factor in the downfall of WCW, ultimately leading to its acquisition by WWE. However, nostalgia has proven to be a potent force, and over the years, the RoboCop segment has gained a newfound appreciation and fondness among fans.
Irrespective of individual sentiments, RoboCop has left an indelible mark on the history of professional wrestling, and it is commendable to see WWE SuperCard honoring and preserving that history.
How to unlock RoboCop in WWE SuperCard
Up until May 31st, 2023, RoboCop will be a playable character in WWE SuperCard. Two SuperStar cards, numerous Support and Equipment cards, and a short-lived event will all be available to acquire.
The two RoboCop Special Quests, which instruct you to achieve a variety of tasks in the game’s primary modes, must be completed if you want to obtain a copy of RoboCop for your deck. Up until you eventually acquire all six exclusive RoboCop tie-ins, each mission will grant you a new Superstar, Support, or Equipment card. You will also receive a unique Cardback for use in the game after doing these special objectives.
If you want to honor RoboCop’s wrestling heritage and obtain his cards for long-term usage, you should act quickly because these tasks are only available until the end of May.
